A farmer stopped at a restaurant for lunch. When he was served his food, he bowed his head and gave thanks to the Lord.
Some uncouth men sitting at a nearby table noticed the farmer’s prayer and shouted, “Hey Pops, back where you come from does everybody pray before they eat?”
Their laughter was silenced when the unyielding farmer answered, “Everybody but the pigs.”
Are there “pigs” in your life that are keeping you from the spirit of thanksgiving? Jealousy, pride and discouragement are all pigs that hide in the parlor of our hearts. They will rob us of our thankful spirit.
David’s life was a brilliant example of the “thanks-living” that should characterize the life of every Christian. He wrote in Psalm 9:1, I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will show forth all thy marvelous works.
Truly our God is worthy of praise! But we must choose to praise Him, and our hearts will then determine the quality of our praise. Let us resolve to give Him our highest praise today!
To the praise of His glory,
Dr. L.W. Edwards
