A Canadian Press photo showed how one man from Havana, Cuba tried to appease God’s wrath. The man was lying on his back on a dirt road. Attached to his ankle was a chain several feet long. The other end of the chain was wrapped around a rock. The caption explained that the bearded man was, inch by inch, pulling the rock on a pilgrimage to a sanctuary dedicated to St. Lazarus.
Did you know that Christ paid for your sins so that you didn’t have to? When He died on the cross and shed His blood on Calvary, the debt you owed for your offenses (called sins) was paid in full. Isaiah 64:6 says, “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”
The Bible says we are all sinners far less perfect than God. The best we could ever hope to do still falls short of His standard of perfection. Ephesians 2:8-9 makes clear: “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not works, lest any man should boast.” The only way one gains entrance into Heaven is by accepting the grace of God alone. The moment you realize that Christ did all the work necessary to save you, you can become a born-again child of God!
