Too much posting on Facebook can cost you a lot of money. Patrick Snay had won a lawsuit against the Gulliver Preparatory School for age discrimination. The suit paid $80,000 in settlement and $10,000 in back wages. There was only one small stipulation: Patrick was to keep the settlement confidential. Not thinking too much about it, he told his teenage daughter, who posted the story on Facebook. A judge ruled that with this breach of the agreement, the school was under no obligation to pay the $80,000. Yes, that was an $80,000 post!

Good News You Can Share

Like Patrick, believers in Jesus Christ have been entrusted with valuable information. Unlike Patrick, however, we do not have to keep this information confidential. Matthew 28:19–20, which is known as the Great Commission, encourages us to go and teach all nations the gospel of Christ.

If the obligation to proclaim the good news of Jesus is not fulfilled, it probably won’t cost us $80,000; but if the obligation is fulfilled and one soul is won to Christ, that soul holds a value far greater than $80,000. How do I know that? It’s simple, God loved His Son — and no good father would exchange the life of his son for any amount of money. Yet John 3:16 explains God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son to come and die for our sins, so whoever would put their trust in that Son’s death, shed blood, and resurrection would have everlasting life. Jesus was God’s priceless Gift for you and me. Upon experiencing such great love, we cannot afford to keep this Gift a secret!

Good News May Cost You

As we see our country overshadowed by moral decay, political corruption, greater hostility towards Christianity and the like, the challenge to spread the good news has become even greater. Small businesses are closing because of stands their owners have taken on the Word of God; brothers and sisters in other parts of the world are being incarcerated, tortured, and killed for being followers of Christ — and yet the obligation to our Lord has not changed!

If you watched the relay races during the Summer Olympics, you saw the runners pass the baton to the next runner on the team. We are on a wonderful team for the Kingdom of God. The baton has been handed off to us by Jesus! Let’s pass it on!
